I am a very concerned Aboriginal woman who has been fighting for victims of sexual abuse in our community. My mother and I have been to court with victims and supported them through the process of standing up. These victims are sometimes condemed by others in the community and their own families because of coming forward. The Liberal Government made out we were not doing anything in our community. We participated in the sexual abuse task force consultation through Attorney Generals Department. We went to Government representatives with our concerns particularly that only 1% of sexual assualt cases are won in court. Out of how many of that 1% plead guilty is what Im particularly interested in and the other 99% plead not guilty and get away with it. So Governement and perpertrators would know if you plead NOT GUILTY it is very likely you will get away with it. What I think is more people need to be made aware of the system not supporting our people when they do come forward. Seeing them go through the heart ache and pain only to know there is only a 1% chance you will win.
