Electricity System
Apr 3 2008, 8:18 PM EDT
It has often been said that Australia is the most polluting of nations per capita, how can this be with 25 per cent of the worlds production coming from the U.S. and Japan lit up like a christmas tree? They both have 110 volt electricity systems.
Australia should follow its major partners lead and swap to 110 volts. It should require half the energy (and half the pollution) to generate our energy needs if we immediately turn the power stations down to half speed. Of course we must all change our appliances to 110 volts where required (although many new devices are multi-voltage), but if every house was issued a step-up transformer for the transition period to power existing appliances then the cost would be only $3 billion dollars ($200 per 15,000,000 households/businesses).
If we did this the results could be far reaching and take us out the embarrassing of position of world's worst polluter.

The problem with this idea, though, is that it's all well and good to halve the voltage, but all that does is double the current taken to do the same job. A device that draws 4 amps at 220V will take 8 amps at 110V. The end result is there is no actual energy being saved. Now, if that device is redesigned to only take 4 amps at 110V, THEN there will be an energy saving. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Electric system,is very useful to us...In our industry now is very higtech ..It is has a advantage to us and a lot of pollution our surroundings already..to make a distract our health if there is a lot pollution..

On top of what PacShady said, having a higher current implies bigger losses on the electric network. With 220V it is about 5% if you double it, it will quadruple (works with the the square of the current) so with 110V you have twice more voltage and 20% loss!!!!!! I like it 220V finally...
