immigration
Mar 9 2008, 7:40 AM EDT Why doesn't the whole world just have no immigration and we move around to where we want to go freely and stop being so fucking scared of each other! Why aren't we all working as one? 12 out of 28 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: immigration
Mar 9 2008, 2:35 PM EDT Several reasons, 1) Racism 2) Religious Bigotry 3) Protectionism 4) The potential for immigrants to cause political change 5) Environmentalism 6) Law worship "I don't mind immigrants I just hate dem damn ILLEGALS" 7) Some people really are worth being scared of (of course, a fair proportion of them are likely inside your particular prison already so...) Of those only #4 has any real merit and the way things are going it's not worth worrying about. I should add that I have no interest in working as one with anyone, but I would like to be able to freely exchange with whomever I wish. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: immigration
Mar 21 2008, 9:17 AM EDT Australian society is a system that involves a lot of infrastructure, policy, laws, etc. Accepting immigrants willy nilly will cause the system to collapse. It is unrealistic to expect that we can supply our standard of living to anyone who wants it. By maintaining the system, we are in a far better position to help other nations as they need it. It is a utopic dream to think we will have free access to all regions of the world within this century. A nice dream though. Cheers, Dale Do you find this valuable? |
