Definition of aboriginal

A Aboriginal should be defined as having no less than 25% aboriginal blood. This would facilitate addressing the issues that are demanding enough without having to include those who are predominantly caucasian yet claim their smidgeon of aboriginal blood so they can have the free ride through life provided by the working taxpayer. 38  out of 64 found this valuable. I wouldn't be so rude as to tell you who you are, nor would I question your antecedents, why do you presume to question mine? My skin colour has nothing to do with my family relationships; my people didn't keep yours in "legal" subjugation for nearly 200 years; when does my free ride begin please ? I have worked all my life and raised 2 families, fostered children irrespective of ethnic origin, and although I am on a DSP I work as a volunteer far more hours than a paid employee. Would you care to reconsider your rigid thought process or would you rather remain illeducated? 8  out of 9 found this valuable. Do you?

This proposal reflects a basic misunderstanding of aboriginality. It is not a matter of genes or "race", it is a matter of cultural preference. I once had a bloke working for me who had two master's degrees -- I was never so rude as to ask, but he was probably 50% or more of Aboriginal stock. He did not "identify" as Aboriginal -- he had opted out. Culturally, he was "white". Others may be less genetically Aboriginal, but identify closely with that culture. Unlike us, Aboriginal people couldn't give tuppence for your race: it's all about where your heart is. 7  out of 8 found this valuable. Do you?

This suggestion is offensive. Who would want to see a return to the terrible 'caste' system that was applied pre-1967. Apart from the obvious logistical problems of calculating such a thing across many generations, and the lack of information in many cases, particularly for people who were stolen . . .

No; no point even trying to argue against it. It is offensive. Period.

This is the sort of eugenic thinking that went out of style mid last century. As for a free ride - I doubt many "choose" to live as the most disadvantaged in Australia. 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?
