My idea for the summit involves 3 areas alcohol, cigarette smoking and the
public health system in Australia. Australia is facing a crisis at the moment in regards to an increasing population and a public health system struggling to cope with demand because in part to a lack of funding. In order to help fund the health system i would like to see legislation put in place where ciggarette manufacturers and alcohol companies put a percentage of their profits on an annual basis into Australias public health system. Binge drinking is becoming more aparent among our youth and so I would also propose that alcohol advertising be prohibited at sporting events and on television in the same manner cigarette advertising was stopped some years ago. Limiting the promotion of alcohol would be a step in the right direction to help solve the problem of binge drinking.

Bite the bullet and enact the opt-out, obligatory organ donation scheme, like they have in Europe ... save billions and get all those hundreds of people dying on organ waiting lists back into society.
Only one in so many people die under the right circumstances and then things have to happen quickly. Unless the deceased has opted out of the scheme for religious or cultural reasons, the health system should be able to use this final gift. Australia has invested a lot in you over the years … education, health care, social support … why take something so valuable to your grave? Consider it the final Medicare levy. |

train the indigenous people in their own land so they can assist in their own healthcare. use the existing healthcare providers to assist with the training. train them in their own communities. provide a specific basic level of medical equipment to all the communities of aboriginal health care; such as laboratory pathological analysis, xray and ultrasound, nurse practitioner and doctor on call.

Australia has become such a greedy country , to me, everything seems, has become geared to the Rich Sector! Yes, what, isn't geared to the rich ,in the main, in Australia , today, I say ? . I totally agree with previous comment in this Forum re Dental costs..& availability for the poorer sector. Costs for Family Housing & also Rentals..same time .. are seeing some people forced to exist in Tents in Showgrounds now & yet seemingly, Refugees are going straight in to Govt. Housing which , in my area , causes us Citizens to have to wait 8 years approx! I heard on ABC Radio recently one woman, given a 4 bedroom home, had 6 sisters arriving the very next morning on a plane from overseas! Australian Aged in particular, do not seem to be getting the same Respect & are just managing to exist on the basic Pension as it is.. And many of them have teeth falling out, if they are'nt poisoned by them , first, unable to pay the greedy costs of the 2000's ..naturally. (It has happened,I know) . They, never had the advantage to save money like those, today.. & yet, even many citizens, I guess,, are now finding it hard, anyway, in this day, where, seems, the Investor, rules, too. That's obvious.. Yes, did I hear much around the plight of the disadvantaged Aged, at the 2020.. Not yet, I havent...but then I did not get to hear that much. After-thoiught ...Gee, yesterday, I noted the price of a Poodle in a Pet Shop Window, here in Brisbane.. Would you believe, it was $750..for a mere family Pet! I tell ya.. Australia, today..!

Either abolish the medicare levy or else increase it to around 9% (with a comparable reduction in general income tax) so that it reflects the real cost of health care. The current rate does not reflect the true level of expenditure on health care and it is misleading.
