We do not need 3 government run television stations, ABC, SBS and now ABC2 digital. Either close SBS or merge it with the ABC as it serves no purpose.

Anonymous Shut down the Triple J network 0 Nov 2 2008, 10:52 PM EST by Anonymous

The Triple J network was set up in the 1980s, in lieu of a lack of youth oriented news and entertainment braodcaster. The ABC however did not envision the rise of both the internet and community/alternative FM stations in every city. It's ratings and listenership has gradually eroded over the last decade. Triple J costs Australian taxpayers millions of dollars every year. I believe it has outlived its intended purpose and is now a funding blackhole. I call on the Federal government to axe the radio network and to leave in place the Triple J website and television program J TV. It would save taxpayers a lot of money on running a dinosaur service, with diminishing listenership.

merril42 ART for CHILDREN, HEALING, POLITICS, HISTORY, ETHNICITY, EXPRESS SELF 0 Mar 19 2008, 8:45 AM EDT by merril42

Art isn't just pictures in a gallery. Its something everyone can benefit from doing. Children love it, every picture tells something about the child and their life. People can use it to express their feelings, describe their pain, happiness or joy when sometimes words just won't do. It expresses culture and history, is a great vehicle for demanding political change, and is a wonderful way of expressing both your own identity and ethnic identity. Many people have found it healing to draw when going through trauma, or even to explain the trauma. If we provided a greater place for it in education, I feel we would go a long way towards helping children with behavioural problems as well as the sheer expressiveness of it. It is a rich dimension to the enjoyment of life. And Yes, to look at great artwork is absolutely wonderful. But to have everyone experiencing their own pleasure in self-expression is even more valuable, and enriches a nation. So. please, lets spend more time and money on making this possible for everyone.
